In January 2010, reports came into the United States of thousands dead and millions more in need of medical treatment. ASA took immediate action to assist those in need. ASA reached out to several established, reputable relief organizations to offer assistance and anesthesiology volunteers wherever needed. Since the disaster, numerous ASA members have volunteered their time and talents to support the earthquake victims.
